This paper is a review completed by The Canadian Council on Social Determinants of the different frameworks that relate to health. This review is intended for policy makers, researchers, practitioners to increase awareness on the determinates of health. This paper focuses on 7 different frameworks and describes key elements of each that should be considered when looking at the determinants of health.

UNICEF put together this report to define and visually explain the Social Ecological Model (SEM) as well as a model of communication for development (C4D), to promote positive and measurable behavioral and social change. The C4D lists behavior change communication, social mobilization, social change communication, and advocacy. This report describes when these C4D strategies are effective at different levels of the SEM model.

This article is a fact sheet put forth by the Community Development and Health Network (CDHN) to outline the different models of health. This article outlines the Social Model of Health, Medical Model, Biopsychosocial Model, Salutogenic Model and the Ecosystem Health Model. The CDHN apply the social ecological model to emphasise the importance of understanding the wider determinants of health to improve one's health outcome. This article states that social exclusion has the biggest effect on the wider determinants of health and that community development is essential to concentrate on the root cause of ill health such as poverty and education.
