Reflections on MHST 601- The Greater Picture
There are many moving parts within our healthcare system to improve the health outcomes for an individual. Working in such a small field within this great healthcare system you often can't grasp the greater picture. Looking back at the core topics discussed in the MHST 601 course allows me to become a more well-rounded healthcare professional. Understanding the different levels of funding for my profession as well as everyone else's who contributed their knowledge through the class postings shows how involved each level of government is within our healthcare system.
Understanding how we can achieve a greater health outcome goes beyond the individual as its so important to look at vulnerable population, health inequalities, health determinants and how they all work so closely together. As an Orthotist you are always assessing the patient objectively and can often lose the theory and fundamental foundations of health.
I am very grateful for taking this course as it has opened my eyes to all the working parts of the healthcare system. This was my first Masters course and I feel I have gained knowledge about how our healthcare system works but also a great introduction on how to be a Masters student and to think critically.
